Sad demise of Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad
We are sad to report the death of Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad who was fighting a battle against
cancer in Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre and expired
on June 12, 2016 at 5.30 pm.
Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad was an innovative and strategic thinker and has immensely contributed for the uplift of the field of Food Science & Technology in Pakistan. He was also the first PSFST Gold medal winner. Dr. Sarfraz completed Matric from Jaranwala, FSc from Gojra, BSc (Hons.) & MSc (Hons.) from UAF and PhD in Dairy Technology from ENSAR and INRA- Agrocampus Ouest, Rennes (France). He also did his post-doc from University of Vermont- US in 2012.
Dr. Sarfraz joined National Institute of Food Science & Technology (NIFSAT), UAF as an Assistant Professor and served for three and half years. Subsequently, he moved to private sector by joining the Pakistan's leading dairy industry, Engro Foods Limited as an Applied Research Manager and worked there till death. He has authored 28 publications; 6 book chapters and presented research work in 68 conferences. He kept on improving his professional and technical skills through participation in 29 trainings. Dr. Sarfraz supervised 17 post graduate students (M.Phil.) and completed two competitive research projects. He has been core figure in organizing around 20+ national and international events in relevant fields like Food Sciences, Halal, & Nutritional Sciences. He also visited 17 countries for various professional and technical assignments. Dr. Sarfraz worked for collaborations with French institutions and has been recognized by Vice Chancellors of UAF and UVAS. Recently, he was selected as the Convener of the SUN Business Network, which was matter of honor and pride for all of us. He served as a bridge b/w industry and academia and was able to mobilize lot of funding from industry to many of respective institutions for re-orienting research to target the issues being faced by the industry and to improve academic & research quality in Universities.
Dr. Sarfraz contributions in food technology society are too many to list. All who knew him will miss him. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family. We request Almighty Allah to bless his soul and grant him a place in paradise and also give his family courage to bear this irreparable loss.
